Things to do about your bad breath

bad breath

Bad breath can really damage a person’s confidence and make you feel like you need to hide away. It can also have an effect on those around you and they can form a negative opinion of you, but the good news is that this article will talk you through some tips to help you to beat bad breath and regain your confidence.

Brush more frequently

This goes without saying, but if you have bad breath this is especially important. You should be brushing at least twice a day. If you are working, it may be a good idea to keep a toothbrush at your workplace, so that you never forget to brush.

Floss more

Plaque, bacteria and excess food can get caught between the teeth and this is a great reason to floss more. One of the main causes of bad breath is the food between the teeth, which begins to deteriorate and cause the bad odour associated with bad breath. Therefore it is ideal to get rid of this.

Drink and rinse

We mentioned excess food, plaque and bacteria in between your teeth above, but these also exist in various hard to reach areas of the mouth. Drinking water and rinsing the mouth is a fantastic way to clear these out of the mouth and prevent your bad breath.

Chew gum

You can’t brush all the time and even if you could, it would not be good for your teeth. In between meals it may be a good idea to chew sugar free gum, as this usually has a fresh flavour that improves your breath. Gum also acts to help you produce more saliva, which is effectively the natural way of cleansing your mouth.

Watch what you eat

Eating food that is particularly strong in smell can certainly add to your bad breath. Because of this it is a good idea to be conscious of this and to avoid foods that have a very strong smell. Examples of this are foods like garlic, onion, curries and many more. If you do eat these foods, it may be good to chew gum or rinse the mouth afterwards.
