4 Foods That Are Great For Your Teeth

Possibly the most overused phrase in the world is that you are what you eat, and usually overused phrases like this are right, especially when it comes to the health of your teeth, mouth and gums. Here are some foods that can really benefit your teeth and most of all enjoy!

Cheese is rich in protein, calcium and various other nutrients that can have a positive impact on your tooth enamel, by helping to strengthen it. It is also believed that consuming cheese is beneficial because it causes you to produce much more saliva whilst you are eating it and this helps to lower the risk of tooth decay, because the saliva protects the teeth from the buildup of bacteria and therefore plaque.

Almonds are a great snack to have whenever you feel like something sweet, but the great thing about them is that they are packed with iron and calcium, which is very good for your teeth. They are also great because they are very low in sugars and can also help you to stave off the temptation to eat more sweet things, because they are very filling. Almond are a great snack on their own or added to your cereal, or even your favourite salad.

Yogurt is a great food for your teeth in the same way that cheese is, because it contains a high amount of calcium and protein. One of the best things about it is that it contains probiotics, or good bacteria as it is sometimes called, can assist in fighting the bacteria in your mouth that is associated with plaque and dental cavities. Yogurt is great, but if you are going to eat it make sure you check the label for sugar content. It is often best to get plain yogurt and flavour it yourself later, that way you know exactly what is going into to it and keeping your teeth happy at the same time.

These are a great source of fiber and taste great too, but the best thing is that because they are crunchy they promote the production of saliva in the mouth and thus prevent the buildup of plaque and bacteria in the mouth. High fiber foods are also known to naturally clean and whiten the teeth because they provide a gentle “brush” when they are chewed.
